Who inspired Yo Yo Honey Singh in music?
Yo Yo Honey Singh revealed that his passion for music was sparked by the legendary Mohammed Rafi. His father was a huge fan of Rafi Saab, and their home was often filled with his timeless melodies, which deeply influenced Honey Singh’s musical journey.
Honey Singh went on to share that he also listened to Kishore Kumar, whose songs he found incredibly fun and entertaining. Kishore Da’s vibrant music added a different flavor to Honey’s musical inspiration.
In 1991-1992, Honey Singh’s mentor or Guru Ji, Abhinav Acharya Ji, visited his home and handed him a cassette, saying, “You’ve listened to enough RD Burman, now play this.” That cassette was AR Rahman’s Roja in Tamil. Rahman’s music had a profound impact on Honey Singh and greatly influenced his musical journey.
How Did Honey Singh Become an Atheist?
In his childhood, Honey Singh used to play the tabla, and his home was filled with a spiritual atmosphere. However, things took a turn when he was in the 6th grade. After being bullied by other kids for having a small ponytail, he asked his mother to cut his hair.
Things only got worse when he was removed from the school’s tabla group by the principal, which led him to give up playing the tabla altogether. This experience also shook his faith, and by the age of 13, Honey Singh had become an atheist.
His Father’s Reaction
After Honey Singh cut his hair, his father, Sardar Sarabjit Singh, was deeply upset. In fact, he didn’t speak to Honey Singh for two and a half years because of this decision.
This family conflict, along with the bullying and his removal from the tabla group, played a significant role in shaping Honey Singh’s views and contributed to his journey towards atheism at such a young age.
When did Yo Yo Honey Singh sign your first music contract as a producer?
In 2004, Honey Singh signed his first music contract as a producer with a company based in Birmingham, England. At that time, remix music was booming in India, and the company wanted a similar sound. They brought him to Mumbai, where he worked with singers like Babul Supriyo and Shweta Pandit. he even acted in a music video during that period. It was then that he was given the name “Music Kid Honey Singh.”
Honey Singh worked on this music album for 10 months, but despite his efforts, the album flopped, and the music company eventually returned to the UK.
Before leaving, the company called Honey to offer him ₹5 lakh as recognition for his hard work. However, Honey Singh refused the money, saying, “The album failed, so how could I accept this payment?”
Honey Singh shared the story behind writing 4 Bottle Vodka.
During a world tour with Shah Rukh Khan, Honey Singh faced protests in Australia from a group of Sikhs who didn’t want him to perform, accusing him of singing vulgar songs and damaging cultural values. Despite the protests, he went ahead with the show. However, the negativity from the protestors deeply affected him. In response to that hurt, Honey Singh decided to channel his feelings into his music, leading to the creation of 4 Bottle Vodka to corrupt the young generation.
Honey Singh then created the song 4 Bottle Vodka, which was sung in a child’s voice. When he played it for Shah Rukh Khan, the actor wasn’t impressed and advised Honey against it. Despite this, Honey Singh decided to go ahead with the song.
What did Honey Singh reveal about Lungi Dance?
Honey Singh shared that Shah Rukh Khan initially rejected Lungi Dance. However, Bhushan Kumar believed in the song’s potential, so he and Honey Singh decided to release it as a single. They were set to shoot the video with 200 children in Hyderabad when Rohit Shetty found out about the shoot. Shetty expressed his interest in including it in his film.

Regarding Badshah, Honey Singh further explained that Badshah was simply a client. Speaking about Mafia Mundeer, which also included Raftaar, Honey Singh praised the collective and mentioned that he would work with everyone involved, but he would never collaborate with Badshah again.

After receiving the threat, Honey Singh filed a police complaint and was provided with security. However, due to these threats, he had to leave India and now resides in Dubai.
