The expansive and ever-entertaining landscape of YouTube holds a dynamic duo gem that has seized the hearts of millions with their infectious humour and witty take on trending topics. Meet Abhyudaya Mohan and Gautami Kawale, the masterminds behind the hilarious YouTube channel – Slayy Point. With over 9.3 million subscribers and counting, they have become one of the most popular roasting channels in India.
Beginning of Slay Point Journey
The Slayy Point journey wasn’t a smooth sail from the get-go. As best friends and Mumbai natives, Abhyudaya and Gautami ventured on their digital adventure at the tender age of 21. Considering their passion for sports they spawned a YouTube channel ‘SillyPoint’ and began recording videos centered around cricket.
Precisely, this wasn’t their open sesame as soon they realized that the audience wasn’t flocking to watch them. It wasn’t until they analyzed and broke down the trailer of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s movie “MS Dhoni: The Untold Story” in August 2016 and then the floodgates of success opened for them.
Stimulated by this they pursued disintegrating more movie trailers and predicting their storyline like that of Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal.’
From Silly Point to Slayy Point
As they found their groove, as well as the need for a unique and diverse identity, the duo rebranded their channel as Slayy Point in 2017. With newfound confidence, they decided to venture into roasting and soon found themselves humorously peeling apart Bollywood celebrities, movies, and even the roasting king himself, CarryMinati. However, it received many thumbs-downs from Minati’s followers and the duo had to take down the video after a prolonged verbal violence against them.
Similarly, several deflating incidents have happened since then, but Abhyudaya and Gautami remained undeterred and continued serving audiences with their characteristic charm which made them the ‘highly-sought’ influencers in the online industry.
Considering this, the duo was solicited to host the prestigious YouTube Fan Fest on March 30, 2019, thus solidifying their position as a force to be reckoned with in the digital realm.
Furthermore, collaborating with prominent YouTubers like Angry Prash, for shows like ‘Worst Lyrics in Bollywood’ and ‘YouTube India trending page’, they continued to forge ahead, exploring comedy through travelogues and other unique perspectives.
One-to-one with challenges
Like every achiever Abhyudaya and Gautami faced their fair share of challenges. While the families and people around them took their passion as flogging a dead horse and a severe compromise to studies, the duo juggled their YouTube endeavours alongside academic
commitments and proved naysayers wrong by scoring over 90 percent in their finals. Talking to Ranveer Allahabadia on BeerBiceps show Slayypoint revealed that their studies improved with newfound confidence which was a testament to the positive impact of pursuing their passion.
Falling-Rising-Flying
Behind the laughs lies the hidden effort and devotion of this duo. They supervised their forked lives diligently, working through the night and on weekends to balance their studies and online pursuits.
In the face of body shaming and excruciating comments, Abhyudaya and Gautami held their ground, shouting loud and clear “We are invincible” to their haters. Gautami Kawale has also been selected as a member of the ‘Women in Comedy’ initiative, encouraging women to follow their passion.
From investing in quality equipment to taking their work seriously, they have demonstrated the business acumen to match their comedic flair. With every milestone, Slayy Point continues to rise and it has now become a harbour of movie promotion for many Bollywood celebrities.
